Your night is yours.
We built Hoppr around the assumption that your location, your crew, and your Friday night belong to you. This policy explains — plainly — what we collect, why, and how to make us stop.
1. Quick summary
If you only read one section, make it this one:
- No ads, no cross-app tracking. Hoppr doesn't show third-party ads and doesn't follow you around the internet. Section 6 spells out exactly who we share data with — and how to opt out if that ever changes.
- Location is only shared when you check in — never in the background.
- Friends see what you let them see. Venues see aggregated crowd counts, not your name or email.
- Delete your account anytime from Settings — we wipe your data within 72 hours.
🐰 Plain-English policy. The rest of this page is the detailed version — written by humans, for humans, not for courtrooms. If something's confusing, email privacy@hopprlive.com.
2. What we collect
Stuff you give us
- Account info — name, email, username, profile photo, optional phone number.
- Authentication identifiers — when you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your verified email and a unique account identifier from those providers.
- Social graph — friends you add, Fluffles you join, chapters or universities you affiliate with.
- Plans & ratings — venues you mark "going" and any ratings or notes you save.
- Communications — messages you send inside Fluffles and any support requests you email us.
Stuff your phone tells us
- Approximate location (only when the app is open) to populate your local map.
- Precise location only when you tap "I'm Going" or check in at a venue.
- Device info — model, OS, app version, and a push notification token if you opt in. No IMEI, no advertising identifiers, no cross-app tracking.
- Diagnostic data — when the app crashes or hits an error, we receive an anonymized report (no message content, no location).
3. How we use it
Short list. Full stop.
- Show you a live, local nightlife map.
- Power Fluffles — so your crew knows who's in.
- Aggregate anonymous crowd counts so venues can see how busy they are.
- Produce aggregated, de-identified insights about nightlife activity — busy nights, popular areas, trends — that we may share with venues and partners.
- Keep the app secure, debug crashes, and prevent abuse.
- Send you service messages (verification codes, account alerts). We don't send marketing without your opt-in.
4. Location & check-ins
Your location is the single most sensitive thing we touch. Here's how we handle it:
- No background tracking. Ever. When the app is closed, we don't know where you are.
- Approximate location (~0.5 mi precision) only while the map is open, used to center the map on your area.
- Precise location is captured only at the moment of an "I'm Going" tap or check-in, and only sent with your action.
- Checking in is the action that shares your location. A check-in is visible to your friends and to the Fluffle you're in. If you'd rather not share where you're headed, don't check in.
5. Who sees what
Three circles, three levels of visibility:
- Friends see your check-ins, Fluffles, and profile — but only if you've added each other.
- Venues see aggregated activity, like "142 people going tonight." We don't share your name or email with venues.
- The public sees nothing. Hoppr profiles are visible to your friends — not to strangers or the open internet.
6. Who we share with
Here's the list of service providers who help us run Hoppr. They process data on our behalf, under contract, and only to deliver their service to us. We don't run third-party ad networks inside Hoppr.
- Railway — application hosting and managed MySQL database. Your account data lives here.
- Google LLC — Sign in with Google (authentication) and Google Places (to display venue names and locations on the map).
- Apple Inc. — Sign in with Apple (authentication) and Apple Push Notification service.
- Cloudinary — image storage and delivery for your profile photo and venue images.
- Mapbox — interactive map rendering. Mapbox receives anonymous map tile requests from your device but does not receive your identity.
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging — delivers push notifications when friends invite you to a Fluffle or check in nearby. Only delivers if you opt in.
- Resend — sends transactional email (verification codes, account alerts).
- Sentry — collects anonymized crash and error reports so we can fix bugs. Does not receive your messages, location, or social graph.
Each of these providers is contractually bound to process data only on our instructions and in accordance with their published privacy commitments.
We don't sell your personal information
We do not sell your personal information as that term is defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) or any comparable state privacy law. We also don't "share" your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
We may produce and share aggregated and de-identified information — such as how busy a neighborhood was on a given night or broader nightlife trends — with venues, research partners, or the public. This kind of information is stripped of anything that identifies you, is maintained in de-identified form, and is not considered personal information under applicable privacy laws.
If our practices change
Hoppr is an early-stage product, and the way we work with venues and partners may evolve over time. We are not in the business of selling your name, email, or location history. If we ever introduce a feature that would qualify as a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under applicable privacy laws, we will update this policy, flag the change in the app, and give you a clear way to opt out before it takes effect.
Legal & business transfers
We may also disclose information when required by law, to comply with legal process, to protect the rights and safety of our users or the public, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of company assets — in which case this Privacy Policy will continue to apply to your information.
7. Your controls
- Decide what you share — your location is only shared when you choose to check in, so not checking in keeps your night to yourself.
- Block or mute people and venues from Settings → Privacy & Safety, or leave a Fluffle anytime — none of it notifies the other person.
- Edit your profile or change your username from Settings.
- Revoke location access at any time from your iOS Settings → Hoppr → Location.
- Turn off push notifications — granularly in Settings → Notifications (friend activity, arrivals, Fluffle invites, venue promos), or entirely from iOS Settings → Hoppr → Notifications.
- Request a copy of your data by emailing privacy@hopprlive.com — we'll respond within 30 days.
- Delete your account immediately from Settings → Delete Account.
8. Retention & deletion
Active accounts: data is retained while you actively use the app.
Manual deletion: when you tap "Delete Account" in Settings, we immediately delete your user record, friendships, plans, Fluffle memberships, stamps, and any Fluffles you created. Backup snapshots are purged within 72 hours.
Long-inactive accounts: we may delete accounts that have gone unused for an extended period, along with their associated data, so we're not holding personal information we no longer need. Where we reasonably can, we'll email you before doing so.
Aggregated, anonymous data (such as historical crowd counts at a venue) may be retained indefinitely, as it cannot be linked back to you.
9. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information you trust us with — including encryption in transit, access controls on our databases, and contractual safeguards with each of the service providers listed in Section 6.
No system is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee that information transmitted to or stored on Hoppr will never be accessed by an unauthorized party. If we ever become aware of a security incident that affects your personal information, we will notify you and applicable regulators as required by law, describe what happened, and explain the steps we're taking in response.
You can help us keep your account safe by using a strong, unique password (or signing in with Google or Apple), enabling two-factor authentication on the email tied to your account, and emailing support@hopprlive.com immediately if you suspect your account has been compromised.
10. Age requirement
Hoppr requires you to be at least 18 years old to create an account. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has signed up, email privacy@hopprlive.com and we'll delete the account within 72 hours.
The Hoppr app carries a 17+ rating on the App Store due to references to alcohol and nightlife venues. Even with a 17+ App Store rating, you must be 18 or older to use the service.
11. California & EU/UK rights
For California residents (CCPA/CPRA): you have the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete it, the right to correct inaccurate information, the right to limit the use of sensitive personal information, and the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. As described in Section 6, we do not currently sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law. To exercise any of these rights — including opting out of any future sale or sharing of your personal information — email privacy@hopprlive.com with the subject line "California Privacy Request." We will not deny you service, charge you a different price, or give you a lesser experience for exercising any of these rights.
For EU/UK residents (GDPR/UK GDPR): you have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and to object to processing. Our lawful basis for processing is your consent (for optional features like location and push notifications) and the performance of our contract with you (for core account functionality). To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@hopprlive.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
We respond to all verified requests within 30 days.
